Baby Chicks are 2 weeks old!

I took the chicks outside today for their first time! They were very apprehensive at first just standing very quietly and listening to their surroundings. There are quite a few interesting birds where we live so plenty for them to listen to.

Once they realized all was well, they had a blast! Pecking at the dirt, picking pieces of grass and chasing each other around. I had been waiting for a warm day to take them out, it has to be 70 or above for them, and today was the perfect day. It was literally below freezing before I left the country, and now is unseasonably warm. Typical Southern California winter...

They are getting big real quick. They had absolutely no 'wings' to speak of when they first came home but look at them now! They are huge and they are using them to run and to get themselves up onto the roost I Installed in their brooder yesterday. Their little legs actually look like chicken thighs now and they are getting lots of their 'real' feathers.

Hubby and I are going to start planning and building the coop this weekend, and hopefully it's done by the time they are 6-8 weeks and ready to move outside. Here is a video of them enjoying the few meal-worms I put around for them for some added entertainment!
